Why you really need to explore Amsterdam at Interclean

Tuesday, 27 February 2018

Making the most of your Interclean Amsterdam experience means exploring the remarkable Dutch capital. Find out what to expect from the city – and how to get around with ease.

Discover more than just a show

Interclean Amsterdam might be the largest and most international professional cleaning and hygiene event in the world, but it’s certainly not a case of ‘all work and no play’.

There’s plenty of time to explore the latest innovations and industry trends during the day, giving you the chance to explore the city itself in the evenings. And it has plenty to offer in terms of entertainment, dining and nightlife. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that, if you don’t spend some of your visit out and about in this vibrant city, you’ll have missed out.

Explore one of Europe’s most sustainable capitals

Amsterdam is always the ideal backdrop for Interclean. Its longstanding and ongoing support for sustainability makes it one of the most environmentally friendly cities on the planet – despite its immense popularity as a tourist destination. It has achieved this through a range of initiatives, such as making sure its public transport is as sustainable as possible. The trams and subways run on green electricity, while canal boats are powered by natural gas. The ethos of the city mirrors our own commitment to driving innovation in the circular economy. Our 2018 event will feature a wide variety of technologies and solutions set to transform the professional cleaning and hygiene industry by making it more sustainable – and Amsterdam itself is part of the inspiration to make such progress.

The simple way to get around Amsterdam

Talking of public transport, what’s the best way to get around Amsterdam? Well, for starters, you’ll find the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition & Convention Centre in the Rivieren district of the city, and it’s well served by local services. There are bus and tram stops outside, and the Amsterdam RAI metro station is just a short walk away – meaning you can easily get to and from your hotel or the city centre. Whether you’re arriving in the city by plane or by train, getting where you need to go is similarly simple. There’s a direct railway line that connects Amsterdam Central Station.

Top tip: If you plan to get around on public transport, pick up an OV-chipkaart. These cost € 7.50 up front, but will cut your travel prices in half.

Wander the waterways after hours

Interclean Amsterdam events end at 17:30 (apart from Friday, when the show finishes at 15:00). This gives you more than enough time to explore the city’s attractions and nightlife. Amsterdam is famous for its canals – and I’d certainly recommend hopping on a cruise along them if you can. Even taking a walk along them is an amazing experience – especially at night, when the canal-side cafés, bars and restaurants illuminate the waterways with a beautiful ambience.

Dining and drinking in Amsterdam – choosing is the hardest part

When it comes to Amsterdam’s nightlife, you really have to get out of your hotel of an evening and join the party. Whether you’re looking to relax with friends and colleagues or wanting to focus on networking opportunities, a good place to start is the central canal district of the city. Dining out, there’s a hugely diverse range of restaurants you can head to. From the brewery next to a windmill to the more upscale eateries around the centre of the city, there’s something for everyone. There are also an ample amount of establishments you can visit to enjoy a drink or two. For starters, we have our very own Lucart beer garden you can stop by at during show hours – along with happy hour from 16:00-17:00 hours each day (apart from Friday, when it'll be 14:00-15:00 hours). When you're out and about, it’s worth doing a bit of research to get an idea of what to expect. However, spontaneity will come naturally to anyone visiting Amsterdam – simply take a walk along the canals of an evening and you’ll find somewhere you like the look of.

Uncover the ultimate Interclean experience

Interclean Amsterdam 2018 is all set to be the best event yet – and part of that comes from its location. The show will give you not just a unique opportunity to develop a successful vision for the future of your business, but the chance to enjoy an amazing experience in one of Europe’s most remarkable cities. My advice would be to engage with everything that Interclean Amsterdam 2018 has to offer – both inside and outside the event itself. You’ll get so much more out of the trip, professionally and personally. Can’t wait to see you there…
