In our latest article, we catch up with Dorien Sibbel, Exhibition Manager Interclean Global Events to find out more about her experience, her role and what she loves about Interclean!
I have worked for the RAI for a very long time now, 23 years in total! I have a technical education which was a good basis for working for the RAI, as I have mostly worked for their more ‘technical’ exhibitions over the years. For example, exhibitions about building and construction, energy, as well as safety and security.
A new challenge
Interclean is a completely new venture for me. The event in 2022 will be my first Interclean show, as I started at team Interclean at the end of 2020 and the show had to be cancelled last year because of the pandemic. Before Interclean I mainly worked for a huge show that the RAI organise yearly in Shanghai, China.
An all-encompassing role
My role at Interclean is like that of a spider in a web: I am at the centre of things trying to understand what’s important for both visitors and exhibitors. With that knowledge in mind, we design an exhibition program in cooperation with associations, exhibitors and all stakeholders involved in the show.
It is important for us to understand and try to meet everyone’s needs, in order to make the show the best it can be for all parties involved. I am enjoying doing this all-encompassing role for Interclean 2022, ensuring that it will be the best show yet for everyone.
My favourite thing
I would say the best part about my role as Exhibition Manager for Interclean Global Events is my chance to do research for the exhibition. Sometimes I feel a bit like a journalist or detective: I can read about industry topics and do research on all kind of subjects, then discuss my findings with all kinds of people.
I am always curious, so this part of my job is really suited to me. I always have questions and enjoy exploring a subject, my colleagues are used to my critiquing skills. I think I bring a new level of curiosity to this role that will help elevate Interclean and make it highly relevant to visitors and exhibitors in 2022.
Outside of work I have varied interests. I really enjoy sport and keeping fit, particularly walking and tennis. I play in tennis competitions as I do have a competitive streak. I also love reading and travelling. China is one of my favourite places that I got to explore when I worked for the RAI on the show in Shanghai.
I like trying new things and exploring new interests. I recently started a pottery course that I am really enjoying. My mind is always curious, both outside and inside of work. I love to take on new challenges and make the best of every situation!
