Chewing gum stains wiped clean from Troon's streets
South Ayrshire Council carried out the clean-up after securing a £27,500 grant from the UK-wide Chewing Gum Task Force. Kevin Braidwood, depute chief executive and director of housing, operations and development at South Ayrshire Council, said: "The Chewing Gum Task Force Grant Scheme has been a fantastic initiative which has enabled the Council to remove chewing gum from our local areas.
"We want South Ayrshire to be clean and tidy for our residents and visitors to enjoy and the Chewing Gum Task Force grant has supported us in working towards this."
In addition to cleaning, teams spray-painted pavement reminders and installed signage encouraging people to dispose of gum responsibly.
Established by Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) and run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, the Chewing Gum Task Force Grant Scheme is open to all UK councils.
It is funded by gum manufacturers including Mars Wrigley and Perfetti Van Melle.
